Luke 10:25 Fund

As the pandemic comes to a close, a lot of landlords and agencies are now refraining from giving occupants the option to have a payment plan or pay their bills later than usual. Because of this, people are struggling to manage which bill is more important than the other, while also trying to find decent paying jobs that provide enough hours to cover the costs of living. To combat this, the Bethlehem Center provides assistance to our community through our Luke 10:25 Fund.

The Luke 10:25 Fund received its name from the parable of the good samaritan. This fund allows the Bethlehem Center to assist community members with their rent/mortgage payments, utility bills, and some extent of medical bills with the maximum amount being $750 per case. As a caseworker for this program, the Luke 10:25 fund has allowed me to be a good samaritan to multiple people in the Chattanooga area.

Though all of the cases that I work with are touching, two of them have stuck out the most to me. I worked with one woman who lost her job due to having to take care of her daughter with special needs because schools were closed during the pandemic. The other case that really moved me was an elderly couple that fell behind on their mortgage payments while trying to pay other bills and manage their social security. The “thank you”s I received and prayers that were answered in both cases reminded me as to why the work we do here at the Bethlehem Center is so important. It is a true joy and blessing to be able to help people who are in need.

Having already assisted 29 people, we have spent almost half of the grant money that was given to us for this program! We at the Bethlehem Center are dedicated to continuing to assist the members of the community until the resources from Luke 10:25 Fund have been thoroughly used.
